Congratulations go out to Dennis Bright of California who won the $60,401.64 grand prize in TwinSpires.com Handicapping Open Championship on April 4.
"I felt like I was in the movie 'Let It Ride' towards the end of the contest," explained Dennis. "I was in fourth going into the final race and hit the longshot at Santa Anita. The person right behind me was also on the same runner, so I edged him by $.80 for the grand prize. I am not a big bettor, so this weekly $25 contest is a great way to bet a little to win a lot."
"I wrote my own handicapping program years ago. I use that program in conjunction with the Brisnet Ultimate Past Performances. I rely on the Ultimates to verify my software selection."
Dennis is not new to winning contests. Many years ago, he teamed up with a friend to win a big tournament at the old Flamingo Hotel in Reno, Nevada, where they split $54,000.
Handicapper Art (Chester) Parker lost the grand prize by only $.80, but he was very appreciate to have $16,261.98 placed in his wagering account.

Art also commented that the standings were extremely tight, and that everyone in the top 20 of the Handicapping Open finals gave a great performance. Racing's richest online handicapping tournament is set to resume some time after June.
The newly renamed TwinSpires.com Handicapping Open returned in the Spring of 2008. Not much changed with this popular pay-to-play contest. It's still only $25 per entry with up to three entries per account member. The 2008/2009 season Championship just concluded. The date for the weekly contest to resume is TBD.

7 Mandatory races for Saturday are up every Thursday evening. PPs and reports from Brisnet.com also go online at that time. The selection process opens up, typically Friday afternoon, when we receive the morning line odds/program numbers for each track involved.

The weekly Saturday format has stayed the same with a mythical $2 win/place wager on each of seven mandatory races. The top 5 finishers qualify each week for the annual championship (date to be determined) which is expected to have a gross pool of over $100,000.
- Wildcard points, which are designed to award consistency of play, are given to the top 50 finishers each week.
- Monthly Winners: The Monthly Wildcard Point leader who has not already earned a spot in the Finals will win an entry into the year-end Championship.
- Quarterly Winners: The first Quarterly Wildcard Point leader who has not already earned a spot in the Finals will win an entry into the Championship. The first quarter begins with the April 12 contest and runs through the last Saturday in June.
- Annual Wildcard Point Winner: The most consistent player over the course of the contest year will win a free entry into the $750,000 Coast Casino Horseplayer World Series in Las Vegas!
