The Hannon yard has had Breeders’ Cup disappointments over the years, but perhaps Illuminate can dispel the gloom for Richard Jr. in the Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1).

The daughter of top European freshman sire Zoffany made a splash in her debut when surprising better-fancied stablemate Great Page at Salisbury (click link for replay). Up in class, and a furlong, for the Albany (G3) at Royal Ascot, Illuminate answered every question. She had to work harder next time in the Duchess of Cambridge (G2) at Newmarket, but showed determination in a three-way finish.

Freshened until the September 26 Cheveley Park (G1), Illuminate appeared to have Lumiere in her grasp, only to see her highly-regarded rival fight back:
