The Mutuel Field (#24), or “All Other Three-Year-Olds,” closed as the 5-2 favorite when Pool 2 of the 2017 Kentucky Derby Future Wager ended Sunday evening. The Field has been favored in each of the first Kentucky Derby Future Wager pools of the calendar year since the pari-mutuel future bet was introduced in 1999.

Among the individual interests, Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) champion Classic Empire (#3) proved the most popular when bet down to 5-1.

Two others closed at single-digit odds – Mastery (#13) and McCraken (#13). The former is unbeaten in three starts thus far, including scores in the CashCall Futurity (G1) and Bob Hope Stakes (G3). McCraken also boasts a three-for-three mark, all of which came at Churchill Downs including the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (G2) and Street Sense Stakes.

A total of $18,160 was wagered on the Bob Baffert-trained Mastery, while $18,105 was bet on trainer Ian Wilkes’ McCraken.

The third of four 2017 Kentucky Derby Future Wager pools is scheduled for February 24-26.
