Race 4 at Lismore (Australia A) on Wednesday night is an open handicap for older horses going seven furlongs around a pair of right-handed turns. The track is expected to be “Good-4” so it should be fair to everyone.
#4 MALMOOSA has many things going for her. She draws the rail, she has a strong record on Good turf, she trains here, she has a win over the course in two tries and won going this distance. The six-year-old mare has plenty of back class and usually sports a big late kick. She did little two starts back in a rough trip going six furlongs on Firm ground but came back and was beaten six lengths against better company. The daughter of Foxwedge drops 10 pounds today and her trainer has won seven of his last 50 starters. Best trip would be to save ground and then find some room in the long stretch.
#1 EVALOT has no early speed but does like Good ground which is a bit surprising with that running style. He missed by less than two lengths two starts back against much better company going a similar distance then came back on better ground and missed by 2 ¼ lengths going seven furlongs in fast time. Drops a couple of pounds off that effort and draws in the middle with Matt McGuren, who is the leading rider at this track by wins and has won aboard him before.
#3 BONCOSTA could have a decided pace advantage against this group. A gate-to-wire winner last out, he has four wins in the past nine months and six total wins on Good ground. Today’s conditions should suit him if sent from the gate by Ray Spokes. He’s been facing similar open handicap company but has to pick up seven pounds.
Malmoosa has lots of factors in her favor and with any kind of clear running in the stretch, should get up in time.
