A pair of late Pick 4 wagers are available on the Friday card at Santa Anita, with one encompassing the four Breeders’ Cup races for two-year-olds. I love the treacherous sequence and will make my stand in the Juvenile Fillies Turf, using the one-two finishers of the recent Miss Grillo (G2).
Race 6 — Juvenile Turf
It’s not an easy start to the ticket with a well-matched field of 14 going 1 1/16 miles on the green. I have been a fan of #1 Our Country (15-1) since his debut and will have win money on the colt. Constitution juvenile gets a rider change to John Velazquez, and the rail draw has a chance to greatly benefit the Kentucky-bred.
#2 Structor (5-1), #4 Decorated Invader (4-1), #12 Arizona (5-2), #13 Fort Myers (12-1) and #14 Hit the Road (10-1) will also be included.
Race 7 — Juvenile Fillies
Nine will go postward in the 1 1/16 miles affair. The Brad Cox-trained #4 British Idiom (7-2) is my top pick, and I will single her on one of my tickets. Daughter of Flashback has been dominant from two lifetime tries, including an impressive stroll in the Alcibiades (G1) at Keeneland. The chestnut will be formidable with her best.
I genuinely believe that if my top pick falters, that any nearly any filly in the field has a chance to win the race, including longest shot #8 K P Dreamin (20-1). I will use her along with #1 Donna Veloce (3-1), #3 Perfect Alibi (10-1), #6 Bast (7-2) and #7 Wicked Whisper (7-2) on my spread play.
Race 8 — Juvenile Fillies Turf
The two-year-old lass that fancies me the most is John Kimmel’s #7 Crystalle (8-1) with Rosario in the silks. $220,000 Palace Malice filly took her first two on the lawn at Saratoga, but it was her fast-closing effort when second in the Miss Grillo at Belmont Park that really impressed me.
On nine of the 11 occasions that this race has been contested, horses based domestically have come out on top. And five of those have been saddled by conditioner Chad Brown, including three straight. So Miss Grillo queen #13 Selflessly (6-1) will also be on the ticket. More Than Ready filly will have Javier Castellano in the stirrups.
Race 9 — Juvenile
This Pick 4 ticket would explode if one of the top-two betting choices failed to close out the sequence. But it will be very tough to knock each of them off in the Juvenile.
I will close out the main play with logicals #1 Dennis’ Moment (8-5) and #6 Eight Rings (2-1) while adding two others on my second ticket for additional coverage.
