Eleven races have been carded for Sunday’s Stars of Tomorrow I card at Churchill Downs, so there are plenty of appealing multi-race sequences bettors can choose from. A mid-card Pick 4 caught our eye as we were doing a horse-by-horse analysis for Brisnet earlier this week.
While California shipper #3 Superman Shaq packs a pedigree punch being a sibling to Monomoy Girl and Mr. Monomoy, #6 STAYIN’ OUT LATE (5-2) has the benefit of a win over the track and has had a couple successful sibs as well in Grade 3 scorers Cali Star and Delightful Joy. Dam also won the Winning Colors (G3) over this track. #2 NOTABLE EXCEPTION (10-1) disappointed when shipped west off a strong Arlington debut win, but fact barn did shows how high they are on him. Has rebound potential.
#5 CLAIRIERE (4-1), a Stonestreet homebred by Curlin and out of multiple Grade 1 winner Cavorting, is a dangerous-looking first-time starter. If 1 1/16 miles proves a stretch for her first out, #8 EILEEN ALEXANDRA (12-1) and #9 SUPER QUICK (9-2) among those likely to improve around two turns.
As this is written roughly 24 hours out, it’s up in the air whether this maiden event stays on the turf given wet weather in recent days. Our proposed ticket is sure to be reduced in cost depending on the surface and who remains in or out.
If on the turf, #1 GO BIG GREEN (5-2), #4 YABA DIVA DIVA (3-1), #5 BELLA CONCHITA (12-1), #13 SURREALIST (7-2), and #14 REBUFF (5-2) (the latter two on the AE list) look competitive. If on the dirt, the nicely-bred firster #8 LA BURNETT (5-1) and the AE #11 CALLE DE LLORA (6-1) will be worth looks as well.
#7 SUPER STOCK (8-5) the seeming class of the field given third-place efforts in the Iroquois (G3) and Breeders’ Futurity (G1), but wouldn’t discount the chances of a rapid improver making noise. #4 KING FURY (9-2), a son of Curlin and Taris, was a no-show in the Futurity but a track-and-distance graduate beforehand. Eligible to rebound.
The 50-cent pre-scratch ticket:
