Juvenile Turf Analysis
A full field of 2-year-olds will travel one-mile on the Keeneland lawn on Friday in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1). From a historical sense, eight of the winners of the race have come from overseas, and the European contingent makes up half of the 14 entered in the main body of the field in 2020. I will lean towards an invader taking the top prize in an ultra-competitive event.
Jessica Harrington’s #5 Cadillac (6-1) will make his U.S. debut on Friday and rates a big chance if he carries his Euro form to the states. The bargain yearling purchase sent notice of his abilities from his debut run when dominating his opposition at Leopardstown in July to the tune of a nine-length romp. Among the horses that the Irish-bred left in his wake that day includes fellow Juvenile contender #10 Ebeko (20-1), who recently be bagged the Zuma Beach S. at Santa Anita.
Cadillac aired in the Champions Juvenile (G2) in his third career endeavor, prior to finishing a useful fifth in the recent Dewhurst (G1) over soft going he does not prefer. The Lope de Vega colt will get the ground he covets at Keeneland on Friday, and I envision the handy juvenile to always be well placed under the guidance of regular pilot Shane Foley.
The domestic runner which I fancy most is #6 Mutasaabeq (5-1), who launched an eye-popping, eight-wide move to take the Bourbon (G2) on the course in his turf debut last time out. The Todd Pletcher trainee was a highly thought of prospect prior to his facile debut tally at Saratoga on Travers Day, and he appears to be even better on the green. Son of Into Mischief retains the services of Luis Saez, who has guided the Shadwell Stable color bearer in each of his lifetime outings to date.
A few other contenders that I will include in my vertical plays are Pilgrim (G2) runner-up #4 Public Sector (8-1), Summer (G1) romper #11 Gretzky the Great (8-1), Royal Lodge (G2) star #2 New Mandate (12-1), and Wesley Ward’s #8 Outadore (8-1).
