Exacta Bet of the Day for Saturday, June 1 at Parx Racing

Exacta Box of the day for Parx Racing

The fourth race at Parx Racing on Saturday attracted a field of nine fillies in what appears to be a solid betting opportunity. The $40,000 maiden claiming contest features a vulnerable favorite, as well as some contenders who could offer excellent value. Since I expect a lot of the wagering to be centered around the morning-line choice, the play for me is the exacta.

Exacta Picks

BUCKS SOME (#5) (8-1) was caught chasing lone speed at the special weight level most recently and will appreciate the class relief in her third race since being claimed. The Michael Moore-trained four-year-old was a sharp runner-up on the surface against better two prior, and she is my top selection.

WILDCATTIN (#8) (5-1) makes her Parx debut in this dash and will race without blinkers for the initial time. The Super Ninety Nine filly from the Shaw barn improved some when an even fifth at Pimlico in her latest, and she comes back in a week which is a positive sign to me. The sophomore will get a contested pace to rally into late in this affair.

KATE’S BULL’S BAY (#7) (9-2) intrigues me in her initial assignment. The bay filly by 15% debut sire Bullsbay hails from the barn of Patricia Farro, who is strong with juveniles and shows a +ROI with first-time starters. Emmanuel Esquivel, who is riding at a 21% clip at the meeting, gets the call.

GLINDA (#4) (12-1) has some hidden form and is worth including at a big number. The James Noble charge has been placed in a few ambitious spots in 2019 but hit the board in each of her two maiden claiming assignments here. Street Sense filly has big early foot and should be prominent from the outset.

I think that this is a fairly deep race for the level. Favorite Yellow Chick (#9) (2-1) is the play against for me. She simply settles for too many minor awards for my liking, and drawing the outside post could be a detriment to her chances.

Using Optix Plot to handicap Parx Racing June 1, 2019

Using Optix Plot to Handicap Race 1 at Parx on Saturday, June 1

The Optix plot is one of the most powerful handicapping tools to come to market in recent years. It gives the user a snapshot of the projected race shape, using a proprietary formula that incorporates Brisnet.com data. Eclipse Award-winning handicapper John Doyle developed the Optix plot, which is part of a complete suite of information available at OptixEQ.com.

To help introduce TwinSpires.com players to Optix, Brisnet.com is offering the Parx Plot PPs for Saturday, June 1.

Let’s take a look at a potential wagering opportunity in the opener based on the plot. The discussion below is for Saturday at Parx only. To learn more about all Optix offers, CLICK HERE.

Race 1, Parx:

The light green “plot fit” on the top of the page suggests that the available data for this race is reliable, while the sun projects a somewhat contentious early pace. Therefore, we can move forward with confidence that, if all runners get out of the gate cleanly and run back to past performances, a horse from off the pace should at least get a fair shake. If the contention was a snowflake this could not be said.

A look at the Race 1 plot shows #6 Ami’s Artie as the speed of the race, but also #1 Fort Apache and #5 Slot likely to be involved up front. With Fort Apache drawn to the inside, it is possible his rider will be forced to send from the gate, which could lead to an early duel. Even if jockey Angel Rodriguez is able to rate off of the early pacesetter, it is unlikely the pace will be dawdling, given the running styles of these three contenders.

Slot is listed as the even-money favorite and could very well sit a perfect trip just off the early pacesetters, but at his projected price, he does not appear unbeatable based on this plot. Assuming the pace is somewhat contentious, #3 Sambook projects to be finishing well based on him being a large square in quadrant 2. The 6-year-old gelding has struggled to win races (one victory in 24 starts), but has hit the board seven times, including a win and a third at this distance. Expecting the son of Daaher to get to the wire first might be overly optimistic, but besting most of this group at his 10-1-morning line prices seems like solid risk/reward proposition.

Wagering strategy:

A more aggressive way to wager on this race would be keying Sambook for second and third in the exotics with the three horses likely to be ahead of him early on. A more conservative approach would be wagering on Sambook to Place and Show.

Parx Racing Pick of the Week for January 29

Tuesday’s fourth race at Parx, a $40,000 maiden claiming event for three-year-old fillies, includes one who faced a champion and lived to tell.

#3 AWESOME ALAINA (4-1) debuted at Parx last July in a maiden special weight going five furlongs. The daughter of Algorithms’ was not overly distinguished as she was beaten 14 lengths into fourth, but the company line of race was. The winner was Jaywalk, recently crowned the champion juvenile filly of 2018.

Awesome Alaina did not reappear for more than five months, this time in a $40,000 maiden claimer on January 12 going six furlongs. Showing more early foot, she tracked in second before weakening a bit in the final furlong. She was fourth again, but this time by only four lengths.

With the get-fit trip behind her, Awesome Alaina can do more damage second off the layoff while traveling a bit shorter on Tuesday going 5 1/2 furlongs.

Parx Racing Pick of the Week for January 22

Tuesday’s fourth race at Parx, a six-furlong $12,500 claimer for fillies and mares, appears as if it could be the proper class level for #4 LOU’S CHARDONNAY (5-1).

Although she’s been found wanting in her last couple of starts following nice wins at Churchill Downs, Saratoga, and Penn National last season, she takes a notable drop here after fading to third last time versus Not Leaving, who came to back to win a higher-class starter allowance last weekend.

Forced to break from the rail that day, Lou’s Chardonnay might fare better here breaking from the middle of the pack and outside the other potential speed. Her best try would make her difficult to beat.

Parx Racing Pick of the Week for January 15

Trainer John Servis has a powerful duo in #4 LIGHTS DOWN LOW and #6 BOURBON IN BED in Tuesday’s second race at Parx, a $20,000 maiden claimer for three-year-old fillies going seven furlongs. Both fillies exit placings at this level, with Bourbon in Bed second best just 10 days ago.

However, #3 HELOTES (6-1) is taking one of the more meaningful class drops in the game, from maiden special weight to maiden claiming, for the first time on Tuesday and could perk up.

Although a well-beaten seventh in her first two tries against maiden special weight company, she displayed a bit more early foot second out, usually a sign of improvement. She doesn’t appear to have the early speed Bourbon in Bed has, but that filly figures to set a stronger pace than what Helotes had to chase last time going one mile.

A very slow pace and tougher competition worked against Helotes last time. We look for a different result on Tuesday.

Parx Racing Pick of the Week for January 8

Tuesday’s feature at Parx Racing (Race 9) is a second-level allowance with a $25,000 claiming option for four-year-olds and up at seven furlongs. #2 IT’S GOOD TO BE US (6-5) makes an awaited return from a layoff of more than six months for trainer John Servis after winning two of his first three starts last spring.

The son of Tapit and multiple Grade 2 winner Great Hot still has plenty of upside, but whether he’ll be at his best off such an extended break remains to be seen. #7 TIGHTEN UP (4-1) appears a capable alternative first off the claim for Michael Pino, with Mychel Sanchez named to ride. In addition to be a potent trainer/jockey combo, the five-year-old was a prior winner at this level last May.

While largely ineffective since, he’s tended to do some of his best work at seven furlongs, where he has a 5-2-2-0 record. We’ll look for him to bounce back to better form under new connections.
