Calder Racetrack Facts:

The Calder Racetrack rests near Pro Player Stadium, home of the Florida Marlins and Miami Dolphins, and is 20 minutes from both the Miami International and Fort Lauderdale airports. The Calder Racetrack has enough room to comfortably contain 1,800 thoroughbreds and has a seating capacity of 15,000 people. Calder also has a great card room and is looking to apply for permits to get slot machines added to its impressive line up of entertainment offerings.

Though Calder Racetrack opened on May 6th, 1971, it took a total of 11 years to get the legal permits and to install its revolutionary all-weather track, which was created by 3M. In the 1980s, Calder introduced some renovations and two new purchases. The first purchase was by Bertram Firestone and the second by Kawasaki Leasings.

By 1997, Calder Racetrack introduced the simulcasting program system. This program allowed bettors to wager on Calder races from off site and international locations. With the program's addition, the racetrack's handle was boosted and consequently raised the track's purses. In 1999, Churchill Downs purchased the Calder Racetrack for $86 million.

Calder/Tropical Wager Menu:

Win, Place, Show, Exactas, Trifectas, and Superfectas are offered on all races. Daily Doubles are offered on the first two races and the last two races each day. Rolling Pick 3s start with the second race. A Pick 4 is offered on the first four and last four races each day; a Pick 5 on the last five races each day; and the Mega 6 on the last six races each day.

All wagers are a $1 minimum, except:

• 10¢ minimum on Superfectas and Mega 6
• 50¢ minimum on Trifectas, the Pick 4, and Pick 5

A minimum of 5 betting interests must be carded to offer Trifecta and Superfecta wagering. In the event the field for a race is reduced to fewer than five betting interests, the trifecta and superfecta pools shall be cancelled and all trifecta and superfecta wagers made in the race shall be refunded.

Pick 3, Pick 4, Pick 5, and Mega 6 scratch policies:

In the event of a late scratch in a Pick 3, Florida pari-mutuel rules stipulate that the post-time favorite not be assigned. Instead, a consolation payout will be made to Pick 3 combinations with winners in two legs and a scratch in the other, or a winner in one leg and scratches in the other two. Scratches occurring prior to the start of the Pick 3 will result in a refund.

Florida pari-mutuel rules for the Pick 4, Pick 5, and Mega 6 mandate that any scratch in that wager will result in the designation of the post-time favorite for that particular leg. No refunds or consolations will result from a scratch in any leg of the Pick 4, Pick 5 or Mega 6.
