Southland Preview: Future Superstars April 2015
Welcome to another Southland monthly preview of the Five Up & Coming Young Greyhounds To Watch In April. These five are those that have shown solid potential from the moment they stepped on the track and are definitely worth watching over the next few months as they gain valuable experience in each race they run. I will follow up with recaps from time to time on their progress and hopefully we will be able to put some $$$$$$ in our pockets along the way. I have listed these alphabetically and the only requirement I use in selecting these five greyhounds is that they have 10 or less starts in their career to be eligible. Good luck to all and thanks for reading.
Five up and coming greyhounds at Southland for the month of April are listed alphabetically.
BOBBY ORR - 3 career starts - 2-1-0-0
He is a transfer from the Wheeling track and appears to have a ton of talent and ability. He's got good early speed, a strong rush to the turn and can turn it on a little more down the stretch. Looked good in first Southland schooling race with a 2nd place finish. Future is bright indeed for this young pup. He is running in Grade C at the present time.
Next race - April 1 in the 16th race.
RUBY JEAN - 7 career starts - 3-1-2-0
She is a hard running young greyhound as evidenced by her six top four finishes in seven races. She's quickly moved up the ladder going from Maiden class to Grade B in a little over a month. Breaks quickly from the box and is usually either in the lead or near the front in each race and though she has tended to fade some down the stretch, with each race she's developing the stamina to hold the lead all the way. Worth keeping an eye on as she gains valuable experience each time out. Has a mid to rail running style. She is running in Grade B at the present time.
SLATEX EXPERT - 3 career starts - 1-1-0-0
After a couple of third place finishes in his schooling races, he drew the eight box in his first official start and with a big rush to the turn won his maiden race by 5 lengths. He followed that up with another good effort by finishing 2nd after setting the early pace. His running style seems to be mid to wide and I like his efforts so far. He's running in Grade D at the present time.
SLATEX MAC - 3 career starts - 1-0-0-1
He had two good schooling races finishing first and second in them and then followed that up with an amazing win by 15 lengths in his first official start at Southland. That impressive romp caught my attention and while his last two starts have resulted in a 4th and 5th place finish, I still think he's going to be one to watch over the next few months. He appears to have a mid to rail running style and his strong early rush should bode him well for the future. At this time he's running in Grade D.
WINDY BONES - 7 career starts - 1-2-2-1
With 6 top four finishes in 7 starts, he's shown good consistency at a young age and with each race will continue to gain experience as he moves upward in grade. He likes it mid to wide and with his strong rush to the turn it will make him a threat in a good many races. He's running in Grade D at the present time.
