Bing Crosby and Paynter Top the Action At Del Mar

Grade 1 winning sophomore Goldencents will make his return to racing in Sunday’s $300,000 Bing Crosby S. (G1) at Del Mar on Sunday. Trained by Doug O’Neill, the son of Into Mischief has plenty of speed and class as well, evidenced by his tally in the Santa anita Derby (G1). Expect this one to come out running.

Pointsoffthebench was a fine allowance winner at Hollywood last time out and could be a big player on this oval. The Tim Yakteen-trained son of Benchmark has also been training in fine fashion of late. Grade 1 winner Comma To The Top was a sharp second in the Triple Bend H. (G1) in his latest outing, and he looms large for conditioner Peter Miller, who has gotten off to a nice start at this meeting. Triple Bend winner Centralintelligence, Grade 1 hero Morning Line, Del Mar Grade 1 victor Drill and possibly the sensationally swift Fast Bullet, are also possible for this endeavor.

The Saturday feature at Del Mar is the $200,000 San Diego H. (G2). 2012 Haskell (G1) winner Paynter, who fought for his life not long ago, looks like the one to beat in here. The Bob Baffert trainee was a fantastic allowance winner in his return over a few good ones, and this seems like a nice spot for the inspirational four-year-old.
Grade 1 winners Liaison and Rail Trip add some depth to this fine graded tussle. The headliner on Friday is the $100,000 Cougar II H. (G3), at 1 ½ miles on the main oval.
