The History of the Acomb Stakes
The Acomb Stakes is a Group 3 flat horse race run each year in August at York Racecourse. Named for a suburb north-west of York called Acomb, the race is run over a distance of 7 furlongs on turf and is open to all two-year-old horses. The race gained Listed status in 1998 and was further promoted to Group 3 in 2006.
The race features on the opening day of the Ebor Festival meeting, a four-day race event first established at York in 1843. As part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge Series, winners will automatically qualify for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf.
