The History of the Ogden Phipps Stakes
Inaugurated in 1961, the Ogden Phipps Stakes is a Grade 1 Throughbred race run annually at Belmont Park in New York. Notable winners of the race include the two-time American Champion Filly Songbird (2007) and Hall of Famer Ashado (2005).
Named for the famed owner/breeder and native New Yorker Ogden Phipps, the race winners gain an automatic entry into the Breeder's Cup Distaff as part of the Breeder's Cup Challenge Series.
