Prix de la Forêt Race History
The Prix de la Forêt is a prestigious Group 1 flat horse race held annually at Longchamp Racecourse in Paris, France. Established in 1858, it was originally contested at Chantilly and has undergone several changes in distance and eligibility over the years. The race is now run over 1,400 meters (approximately 7 furlongs) and is open to thoroughbreds aged three years and older. Scheduled for early October, it serves as a highlight of the French racing calendar, often coinciding with the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe weekend.
Since 2012, the Prix de la Forêt has been part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge series, earning the winner an automatic berth in the FanDuel Breeders' Cup Mile at Del Mar, California. This "Win and You're In" status has attracted top international competitors seeking to secure a spot in one of North America's premier mile races. The 2025 edition saw Maranoa Charlie clinch victory, edging out the favored Zarigana by 1¼ lengths, thereby securing his place in the Breeders' Cup Mile.
