Prix Jacques Le Marois Race History
The Prix Jacques Le Marois is Group I flat thoroughbred horse race run each year at the Deauville Racecourse in Deauville, France. Inaugurated in 1921, the race is named in honor of owner-breeder Jacques Le Marois, an important figure in France’s horse racing history.
After acquiring the Lonray Stud Farm in 1891, Le Marois produced several notable horses that dominated in the early 1900’s, including Orange Blossum, Princesse Lointaine, Rabat Joie, Uriel, Wagram II, as well as the outstanding Filly Sauge Pourprée. Outside of breeding Le Marois was a highly respected by his peers, serving as President of the Société des Courses as well as on a number of boards. Le Marois was also the race steward at Deauville, where the race in his honor is held, between 1905 and 1911.
