A pair of graded runs on the lawn will be the highlights of the Saturday of racing at Churchill Downs. Sophomore fillies will contest the $175,000 Mrs. Revere S. (G2), and a nice field is taking shape. Among those in Praia, a bay filly by Distorted Humor who made a big run from off the pace to beat allowance foes at Keeneland last time. The Ken McPeek trainee is twice stakes placed on this lawn and is in pretty good form as of late, with another forward move more than possible in this wide open affair.
Graded heroine Nellie Cashman has been on a nice roll in advance of this and comes off a big second in the Valley View (G3) at Keeneland for conditioner Francis Abbott. Moon Angel, a fine debut winner on the Keeneland main oval for Kellyn Gorder; Sense to Compete and Keening, one-two in a recent allowance; Pucker Up (G3) queen I’m Already Sexy, Arlington Oaks (G3) second Frivolous; dual Grade 1-placed Emotional Kitten; Ta Wee S. vixen Always Kitten and smart allowance romper Allegheny Angel, are also working towards this event.
Also on Saturday is the $100,000 Commonwealth Turf S. (G3), for the males on the lawn. Secretariat S. (G1) winner Admiral Kitten, a fine second in the Jamaica H. (G1) most recently, could be the one to beat in this one. The Mike Maker trainee has been first or second in eight of nine lifetime tries and couldn’t be much sharper in advance of this grassy tilt.
Ohio Derby (G3) second Braveman, Grade 1 placed Central Banker, stakes victor Dorsett, Keeneland allowance star Formidable Heart, two-time Grade 3 winner General Election, Jefferson Cup (G3) third Gentleman’s Kitten and O’Prado Ole, a winner of two straight for Dale Romans, are among the top threats to the likely favorite.
