Hawthorne Race Course 2013 Spring Meet

February 15th – April 28th

Hawthorne Race Course will kick-off it’s 122nd year of live thoroughbred racing on Friday, February 15. Located just 10 minutes from downtown, Chicago’s hometown track will feature an opening weekend full of fan-based promotions that showcase the up-close excitement and economical entertainment of the historic sport of kings.

The racing highlight of the meet will be the 56th running of the Illinois Derby (G3), to be held on April 20. The 1 1/8-mile race for 3-year-olds received a 50% purse increase this year, with $750,000 up for grabs in the 2013 running of the race. “The Illinois Derby is the biggest dirt race in Illinois. It’s a vibrant part of Chicago sports history and a great way to get ready for the Kentucky Derby,” said Carey. We have a huge BBQ fest, live music, gate give-aways and so much more.  If you can only make it to one live race, this is the day you want to come to the track.
