A homegrown colt from Mr. Amore Stable, there were questions early about Firenze Fire’s talent. He has been run often as a young contender as he tries to carve out a place amongst the top peers headed towards the 2018 Kentucky Derby. While he has earned $669,100 over nine starts with a 4-1-0 record, a major win has eluded him so far, though not for a lack of trying.
Firenze Fire broke out as a juvenile in the 2017 Sanford Stakes and Champagne Stakes, with a fourth place finish sandwiched in between in the Hopeful Stakes. An uncharacteristically bad start derailed his chances in the 2017 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile where he placed seventh overall.
Returning for his three-year-old season, Firenze Fire won the 2018 Jerome and then ran a distant second to Avery Island in the Withers Stakes. Since then he has placed fourth in both the Gotham Stakes and the Wood Memorial.
