HUGE CLOSING WEEKEND AT THE SPA
HUGE CLOSING WEEKEND AT THE SPA
Closing weekend at Saratoga is full of star power, with a quartet of Grade 1 races on tap. Saturday's co features are the G1 $750,000 Woodward Stakes and the G1 $250,000 Forego Stakes. In the former, top handicap horse Quality Road will hope to return to his winning ways in this one for Todd Pletcher. The multiple Grade 1 hero suffered a defeat in his last over this oval but should be plenty tough in here in his final prep for the Breeders' Cup Classic.
Among those likely to face the likely odds-on favorite include 2009 Kentucky Derby victor Mine That Bird, G2 Suburban Handicap victor Haynesfield and the Bob Baffert-trained Mythical Power.
The Forego looks like a dandy, with Grade 1 winners Vineyard Haven and Bribon likely to vie for favoritism. Other top-notch sprinters signed on are the high-quality Big Drama, Grade 1 star Warrior's Reward and Grade 2 winner Charitable Man.
Sunday's feature is the G1 $250,000 Spinaway Stakes for juvenile fillies. Position Limit has been awesome in two tries for Todd Pletcher and deserves the favorites' role on this day. The daughter of Bellamy Road could be a special one.
Le Mi Geaux, who bagged the G3 Schuylerville Stakes most recently, looks to be among the main threats to the aforementioned. The promising Alienation and Stopspendingmaria should be in the hunt.
The closing day headliner is the G1 $250,000 Hopeful Stakes, featuring the top juveniles on the grounds. A trio of eye-popping maiden winners, Boys at Toscanova, Wine Police and Stay Thirsty, looks like the ones to beat.
Champion Forever Together is the standout in Monday's G1 $100,000 Glns Falls Handicap.
