LEXINGTON THE FEATURE AT KEENELAND
The weekend standout at Keeneland is Saturday’s $200,000 Lexington S. (G3), a race that a few horses have used to bolster their status, or earn their way, into the Kentucky Derby field in two weeks time. This year’s field is still in flux, but Florida Derby (G1) runner-up Reveron could show up here for trainer Augustin Bezara. The dark bay son of Songandaprayer did finish in front of Union Rags last time when a big second at Gulfstream, and has never finished out of the money in seven lifetimes tries. If he handles the surface switch, he’ll be tough.
The Ken McPeek-trained Golden Ticket was a sharp second in the Tampa Bay Derby (G2) most recently and goes for a trainer who almost always heats up at this venue. Unbeaten turf runner Summer Front, Sunland Derby (G3) third Stirred Up, Spiral S. (G2) second Holiday Promise and sharp maiden hero Arm Force are also likely for this event.
A trio of other graded races will be held during the second to last week of this brief meeting, started by Thursday’s $100,000 Appalachian S. (G3) for sophomores fillies on the lawn. Friday plays host to the $100,000 Doubledogdare S. (G3), while the Sunday feature is the $150,000 Ben Ali S. (G3).
