Saturday, May 11 marks the opening day of racing at Monmouth Park. This coastal New Jersey racetrack will conduct business through the summer, eventually concluding on October 6. A total of 16 graded races are slated at this venue in 2013, with the biggest day of the meeting coming on July 28 – the date of the $1 million Haskell Invitational S. (G1). This three-year-old feature often attracts some of the best horses in all of the country, and we expect the same this season.
On the Haskell undercard is a quartet of graded races — $200,000 Molly Pitcher S. (G2), $200,000 Monmouth Cup S. (G2), $150,000 Oceanport S. (G3) and the $150,000 Matchmaker S. (G3).
July 6 is the date for the important United Nations H. (G1), the other Grade 1 race at the meeting.
