QUEEN’S PLATE DRAWS A STRONG CAST
QUEEN'S PLATE DRAWS A STRONG CAST
The first leg of the Canadian Triple Crown will be held on Sunday, in the prestigious, $1 million Queen's Plate S. on the Polytrack at Woodbine. A huge field is expected for this all-important race north of the border, with a slew of top sophomores set to go.
Woodbine Oaks heroine Inglorious has been among the top fillies in training this campaign and seems poised for a big run here against the boys for Josie Carroll. The daughter of Hennessy has progressed nicely in this season and should be a big threat with her top effort. The aptly-named Queen'splatekitten was a nice winner of the Marine S., a local prep for this, and could be the one for trainer Todd Pletcher. The top three finishers of the Plate Trial S. - Roger Attfield's Check Your Soul, Bowman's Causeway and Strike Oil -- all look to have a chance in this event.
Allowance winners Okiyama and Head Honcho, Marine third Oh Canada, Pender Harbour and Seawatch, who were fourth and fifth in the Victoria Park S, and sharp maiden winners One Big Gator and Enduring Star, are contenders in well-matched field.
On the Queen's Plate undercard for Sunday is the $200,000 Highlander S. (Can-G2) and the $150,000 Singspiel S. (Can-G3).
The Saturday action at Woodbine will be led by the $250,000 King Edward S. (Can-G2), $150,000 My Dear S. and the $100,000 Charlie Barley S.
