SAM DAVIS HIGHLIGHTS TAMPA WEEKEND
Unbeaten Bretheren will make his stakes debut in Saturday’s G3 $200,000 Sam F. Davis Stakes at Tampa Bay in hopes of following in the footsteps of his half-brother Super Saver, the winner of the 2010 Kentucky Derby. Trained by Todd Pletcher, the son of Distorted Humor has been very sharp in both lifetime tries and is the one to beat in here.
Local hopes include Bert B Don, second in the Pasco S. and Inaugural S. in his last pair, Manicero, a winner of three straight stakes events, and Count Fleet S. winner Monzon, who has not lost on dirt at this point of his career. Possibles include Ken McPeek’s Private Prize, In Reality S. victor Reprized Halo and Canadian stakes romper Tiz Blessed for Chad Brown.
On the Tampa undercard is a pair of stakes events, including the G3 $125,000 Endeavour Stakes for fillies and mares on the grass. Among the possibles for this affair are multiple stakes queen Akilina, local allowance winner Box Office Queen, Grade 3 star C. S. Silk, Denomination, who dominated allowance foes on this lawn last out, smart Gulfstream allowance heroine Honeymoon Girl, and the top three from a local allowance prep – You Go West Girl, Keertana and Romacaca.
The $100,000 Florida Oaks for sophomore fillies concludes the stakes events.
