San Carlos Tops Santa Anita Weekend
The $200,000 San Carlos S. (G2) is the top draw at Santa Anita this weekend. This sprint event has attracted a nice field, with Vosburgh S. (G1) star The Lumber Guy leading the way. Now in the hands of Neil Drysdale, the four-year-old colt didn’t fire last time, but was second on this dirt in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1), and we expect a big turn around in this one.
Grade 1 victor Drill, unplaced last time in his 2013 debut, has been training well and looks to have a chance for trainer Bob Baffert in this deep field. Recent Palos Verdes (G2) upsetter Sahara Sky, the ultra-talented Midnight Transfer, a fine comeback allowance winner off a long layoff, and Palos Verdes third Justin Phillip, make this one a strong betting race despite the small field.
