SAN FELIPE BOASTS AN IMPOSING CAST
Grade 1 winner Rousing Sermon is among the big field of contenders for Saturday’s $300,000 San Felipe S. (G2) at Santa Anita on Saturday, a key prep on the road to the Kentucky Derby (G1) Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, the son of Lucky Pulpit was best in the CashCall Futurity (G1) in his 2011 finale and was third in the Robert B. Lweis S. (G2) in advance of this.
Impressive Sham S. (G3) victor Out of Bounds has been training well and is sure to have something to say in the outcome in here. The son of Discreet Cat is improving and has a nice turn of foot. The Mike Harrington trained duo of Empire Way and Grade 1 winner Creative Cause could both land in this spot. The former was a nice second in the Lewis while the latter had a useful prep when third in a one-turn race last month.
San Pedro S. victor Midnight Transfer, superb maiden winner Bodemeister and Lewis (G2) upsetter I’ll Have Another also deserve a lot of respect in this test.
The $70,000 China Doll S. will also be contested on Saturday, while Sunday’s headliner is the $100,000 Las Flores S. (G3).
