The spotlight will be on the sophomores at Belmont Park on Saturday for the running of the $200,000 Peter Pan S. (G2). A well-matched field of intriguing contenders is slated for this test, which is often a steppingstone to the Belmont S. (G1) four weeks later. Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin will be well represented with a pair of runners, led by Incognito, who was a sharp allowance winner versus elders last time after enduring countless trouble in that race. By A.P. Indy out of Octave, the well-bred colt looks to be a Belmont type and we expect him to run well in this spot. His other charge, Transparent, was a most impressive, 10 ¾-length allowance winner last time and appears to be getting good at the right time.
Illinois Derby (G3) fourth Abraham gives trainer Todd Pletcher a runner in the field, and the lightly raced sort would not be a surprise in this field. Infinite Magic was a game allowance winner over a horse who came back with a big Grade 2 second last time in his U. S. debut, and will try dirt for the initial time for Team Valor.
Florida Derby (G1) fourth Navarez, recent stakes winner Battier, the speedy Freedom Child and sharp allowance winner Saint Vigeur are also signed on for this 1 1/8-mile feature, while Declan’s Warrior, winner of the Bay Shore (G3) most recently, is possible for conditioner Nick Zito.
The Saturday undercard will be led by the $90,000 Free at Last S. and the $85,000 Cozy Blues S., both on the turf. Sunday will play host to a trio of listed stakes events; the $90,000 Albert the Great S., $90,000 Good Reward S. and the $85,000 Around the Cape S.
