STAR STUDDED CAST TO GO IN VANITY
Champion Blind Luck, a recent winner in the G2 La Troienne Stakes last out, is among a top field to compete in the G1 $250,000 Vanity Handicap at Hollywood Park this Saturday. Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, the daughter of Pollard’s Vision has never run a bad one, winning or placings in all 19 starts, and is a Grade 1 heroine on this oval. Garrett Gomez will ride the Kentucky-bred.
Among the top contenders to the champ include synthetic standout St. Trinians from the barn of the red-hot Mike Mitchell. The daughter of Piccolo was DQ’d after finishing first in the Milady H. (G2) in advance of this and would be no surprise after just missing to Zenyatta in this affair last season.
Dual Grade 1 queen Switch has really elevated her game in 2011 and comes off strong runner-up showings in the Apple Blossom S. (G1) and Santa Margarita S. (G1). The john Sadler-trained daughter of Quiet American took the Hollywood Oaks (G2) over Blind Luck on this Cushion oval in 2010. Bob Baffert’s American Story, Grade 1 upsetter Miss Match and the Peter Eurton-conditioned She’s Cheeky could round out the compact, but superb, field.
The $60,000 Manhattan Beach S. for female sophomore sprinters on the grass is on the Vanity undercard.
