Starlet Tops Hollywood Weekend

Trainer Ken McPeek will go for his second straight Hollywood Starlet (G1) tally when he saddles Rosalind in this week’s feature at Hollywood Park. The juvenile lass was last seen finishing a troubled and fast-closing third in the Juvenile fillies (G1) and could thrive on this oval trying to emulate Pure Fun from a year ago. The Grade 1-placed filly will once again be paired with Joel Rosario for her Cushion Track bow.

Untapable was live in the betting but didn’t fire in the Juvenile Fillies, but she is surely a bounce back candidate for conditioner Steve Asmussen. The Pocahontas (G2) queen has speed and is bred to run at least this far, and we wouldn’t take her lightly in her synthetic debut. Bajan romped home in the Moccasin S. last month and will be a big presence if she handles the two turns. The Simon Callaghan-trained daughter of Speightstown could be the value of the field. Sharp Cat S. romper Arethusa and maiden winners Tastes Like Candy and Global Hottie, are also likely for this lucrative affair.

Saturday’s undercard is led by the $150,000 Bayakoa H. (G2), for fillies and mares on the main oval. A well-matched field is likely, including Grade 1-placed stakes winner Charm the Maker, Yellow Ribbon (G2) runner-up Appealing, Charlie Em, a solid third in the Autumn Miss S. (G3) on the turf last time, dominant recent allowance vixen Rock and Glory, Cat’s Cardle S. heroine Warren’s Veneda and Magic Union, a smart allowance winner two back at Del Mar.
