Thoroughbred Meet Begins at Los Alamitos

Daytime thoroughbred racing gets underway at Los Alamitos on Thursday, July 3. The two-week thoroughbred meet will run Thursday - Sunday starting at 2 p.m. Pacific Time through Sunday, July 13. It is the first time throughbred racing has been conducted as a separate, full meeting since the last Orange County Fair meeting in 1991.

The highlight of the meet takes place this weekend when 2013 Juvenile Champion and once future book favorite for the 2014 Kentucky Derby, Shared Belief, aims for a triumphant return to stakes action in the Grade II, $500,000 Los Alamitos Derby (formerly the Swaps Stakes) this Saturday, July 5. Shared Belief will be the heavy favorite in a six pack that includes G2 stakes winner Candy Boy, G3 winner Top Fortitude, Can The Man, Tonito M. and Friendswith K Mill.

The second richest race of the meet, the $200,000 Great Lady M. (G2) headlines Sunday's card on July 6.

Racing at Los Alamitos will run through July 13, after which, the action shifts to Del Mar on July 17.
