BING CROSBY THE HEADLINER AT DEL MAR

The top draw at beautiful Del Mar this weekend is the $300,000 Bing Crosby S. (G1) on Saturday. Champion sprinter Amazombie was a solid third in this race a year ago and comes off a solid try in his latest appearance when second in the Churchill Downs S. (G2) in May. The hard-trying and talented son of Northern Afleet has yet to win here but seemingly always fires and can’t be dismissed by any means.

Grade 1 hero The Factor beat elders here last campaign in the Pat O’Brien S. (G1), and had a nice prep for this when second at seven panels. The son of War Front could have surely needed his last in his first run since Dubai, and should be primed for this one. The improving Capital Account has earned some lofty Speed figures and comes off of a nice win for trainer Bob Baffert. We’ll closely watch the son of Closing Argument. Recent stakes winner Don Tito, the speedy Italian Rules and sharp allowance winner Gun Boat are also signed on for this dash.

Sunday’s $200,000 San Diego H. (G2) looks to be the next stopping point for returning Grade 1 hero Coil, who bagged the Haskell last season for Bob Baffert. The four-year-old son of Point Given has trained fast in advance of this, his local debut.

Others likely for this 1 1/8-mile event include defending champ Tres Borrachos, two-time Pacific Classic S. (G1) star Richard’s Kid, Grade 1 star Rail Trip and fleet Grade 2 victor Gladding.
