Gamely the Top Draw at Hollywood

Hollywood Park will play host to a pair of graded races on Memorial Day, led by the $250,000 Gamely S. (G1). This grassy affair for fillies and mares is coming up tough, with a slew of ladies who could bag this prestigious event. Trainer Ben Cecil will saddle Quiet Oasis in this one, in hopes of having her improve on her runner-up showing in 2012. The five-year-old daughter of Oasis Dream never fired at Keeneland last time in the Jenny Wiley (G1) but has a ton of ability and likes it here.

Tiz Flirtatious, from the barn of Marty Jones, was a fine winner of the Santa Ana S. (G2) last time out and the Cal-bred mare is a Grade 1 second on this turf oval. My Gi Gi bagged the Honeymoon (G2) on this lawn last campaign and will be making her 2013 debut today for Brian Koriner. The four-year-old has run big off the layoff in the past and could offer nice value in here.

Two-time Grade 1 heroine Lady of Shamrock has been compromised by slow paces in both of her recent starts, but the John Sadler charge has a huge turn of foot and would be of no surprise third time off the layoff. Wilshire (G3) second Long Face, American Beauty S. queen I Dazzle and Private Affair are also likely. In addition, if reigning Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1) second Marketing Mix does run here, she immediately becomes the one to beat in this fine compilation of turf distaffers.

In the $100,000 Los Angeles H. (G3), trainer Peter Miller seems to have a huge chance here with both Grade 1 winner Comma to the Top and the multiple Grade 1-placed Majestic City leading the way.

Trainer Bob Baffert could sent out any or all of the following to challenge; the streaking Patriot’s Voyage, Grade 1 winner Drill, the ultra-fleet Fast Bullet and Grade 3 hero Apriority.

The $150,000 American H. (G2) will lead the Saturday card at Hollywood.
