KENTUCKY CUP STARS AT TURFWAY

Trainer Mike Maker should have a big impact in the feature race at Turfway Park on Saturday in the $150,000 Kentucky Cup (G2), one of five stakes races during Kentucky Cup Day. Stakes winner Lonesome Street was a good second in lone appearance on this oval and will surely be in the mix with another positive move. The four-year-old son of Broken Vow was a good second in the Unbridled S. last out.

Headache was a bit outrun when fifth in the Whitney S. (G1) at Saratoga, but was a sharp winner of the Cornhusker H. (G3) two prior and would be tough with something close to that showing. Multiple stakes winner Dean’s Kitten gives Maker a third prime player in this field. Third in the Arlington Million (G1) last time, the four-year-old son of Kitten’s Joy has a big turn of foot and is a stakes winner on this oval.

Others likely for this event include improving Saratoga allowance winner Bergerac, multiple Grade 3 winner Demarcation, Washington Park H. (G3) victor Mister Marti Gras, Suburban H. (G2) second Hymn Book and Prairie Meadows Mile S. winner Worldly

The $100,000 Distaff (G3) could attract the likes of Grade 3 heroine Upperline, Gardenia S. (G3) runner-up Secret File, Dale Roman’s Persuading, local stakes queen La Gran Bailadora and Bella Medaglia, second in the Iowa Oaks two prior.

Long Branch S. fourth Will’s Wildcat, Distorted Humor S. fourth Philippe, Grade 3 hero Lou Brissie and Todd Pletcher’s talented Cal Nation, second in the Select S. at Monmouth last time, are among the top draws for the $100,000 Sprint (G3).

Also on tap for this huge day of racing is the $75,000 Juvenile fillies and $75,000 Juvenile S.
