Los Alamitos to host 2013 Challenge Championships

Los Alamitos Race Course will host the 2013 Bank of America Challenge Championships on Saturday, November 9. The night of racing will feature a full card of outstanding Quarter Horse races.

The Challenge Championships are a series of lucrative year-end stakes for Quarter Horses from throughout the United States. Horses qualify for the stakes by winning regional races throughout North America, beginning each spring and continuing through early fall.

The 2013 Challenge Championships will be held Nov. 9, one weekend after the Breeders’ Cup is held at Santa Anita on Nov. 1-2. The 2013 Challenge Championship will be the 10th time that Los Alamitos has hosted the event. The Challenge Championships was last held at Los Alamitos in 2011. The event was at Prairie Meadows in October of this year.

The main race of the Challenge Championship is the $350,000 Bank of America Challenge Championship for older horses. The race winner earns an automatic berth to the Champion of Champions at Los Alamitos in December, the top race for older Quarter Horses in the nation.

What are the Bank of America Challenge championships?

Each horse that wins a regional Bank of America Challenge final automatically receives a berth in their respective divisions at the Bank of America Challenge Championships. A horse may run in as many regional races in a season as the owner wishes. A horse can continue to run in regional races even after qualifying for the Challenge Championships. Horses who finished second in a regional final may be eligible for the final should the winner not be able to participate. In addition to the six Championship races, horses that do not qualify for a Championship race may have preference to run in an undercard stakes race on Bank of America Challenge Championship night. There is a list of preferences for the six undercard stakes races that are specifically for the horses that do not win a regional final.

Which will give away nearly $1 in purses after the running of its six signature events.

The event will be held for the 10th time in 21 years at Los Alamitos in Southern California.

The Signature event, the $350,000 Bank of America Challenge Championship (G1).
