Delta Downs Challenge Results

Mark wins Delta Downs Jackpot Challenge

Bernie Mark of Richmond Hill, New York, won the inaugural TwinSpires.com Delta Downs Jackpot Challenge on November 20. He parlayed his $50 entry into a free spot in the Coast Casino Horseplayer World Series to be held February 17-19, 2011, at the Orleans Hotel in Las Vegas and a $1,800 credit to his TwinSpires.com wagering account. Mark joins 18 other account wagering members who earned a free Las Vegas trip via this online tournament at TwinSpires.com.

A former YouBet customer, Mark has always enjoyed playing the ponies, and he now wagers online through his TwinSpires.com account. Mark, who retired four years ago, loves playing contests.

"When anyone is playing a contest, it's important to play value horses preferably 5-1 or better," Mark explained. "By playing chalk, and overbet, low-priced horses, you have no shot to win a contest. You need to be aggressive."

The Delta Downs Challenge was his first on-line victory, but he won a local OTB contest in New York about a year ago that paid $1,000 and earned him a trip to Albany, New York, for a more lucrative event.

"Because I was impatient and not focused, I missed a horse in the first race that paid $22," Mark said. "Because of that I changed my betting horses and wound up not placing in the top three.

"One thing I know, the more contests you play in, the more you will learn from your mistakes."

Mark, who likes to wager on Pick 3s and Pick 4s, added that winning the Delta Downs Challenge over the other 678 entries was his best feat in a handicapping contest. He likes to handicap and pays attention to jockey and trainer combinations.

"I love betting horses that have speed and cut back in distance," Mark observed. "Last Saturday I bet a horse in Hollywood that went off at 27-1 and just missed coming in second, paying over 16 dollars for place.

Mark is looking forward to his trip to Las Vegas.

"I am now retired and play almost every day on the internet," Mark concluded. "I don't play for a living, but I have been fortunate the last few years by being ahead of the game. I have a very good feeling about the February tournament."

Good luck Mr. Mark and all the TwinSpires/YouBet customers heading to Las Vegas in February!
