History of Horse Racing at Zia Park
Zia Park is one of New Mexico’s five tracks currently in operation. The racetrack and casino opened in 2005 in Hobbs, New Mexico, near the Texas border, and purses for the opening meet totaled over $1.4 million. With an ever increasing stakes schedule and purses, Zia attracts both Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds in the fall, between the Ruidoso and Sunland meets, and appeals to horses of all ages, open or New Mexico-bred. Zia Park Casino, Hotel and Racetrack are owned and operated by Penn Gaming.
