SARATOGA OPENS ON FRIDAY

Racing will begin in Saratoga Springs, New York this Friday when Saratoga opens its doors for business. Arguably the most dynamic meet in the U. S., this 42-day run ends on Labor Day.

The opening-day feature at The Spa is the $100,000 Schuylerville S. (G2) for juvenile fillies. Debutante (G3) runner-up Five Star Momma, John Terranova’s Born Bullish, who romped to a nine length maiden win at first asking, sharp Todd Pletcher-trained debut winner Georgie’s Angel, and maiden heroines True Feelings, Vukovar and Gypsy Robin, who returns from a trip to Ascot.

Saturday will play host to the biggest race of the weekend, the $250,000 Coaching Club American Oaks (G1) for sophomore fillies. A top heavy field of fillies is likely for this. Mother Goose S. (G1) heroine Buster’s Ready has come a long way for Todd Pletcher and can’t be ignored due to her fine run of form. Acorn S. (G1) It’s Tricky has been defeated just once and could be the one to catch and beat for Kiaran McLaughlin. Black-Eyed Susan S. (G2) sharpie Royal Delta might have the most upside of any horse in this race for Bill Mott. Multiple graded winner Joyful Victory was second in the Mother Goose and could improve on this oval for Larry Jones.

Juvenile males will top the Sunday card when battling in the $150,000 Sanford S. (G2).
