Violence Returns In Strong Fountain Of Youth Cast
A slew of the top Kentucky Derby contenders stabled in the Sunshine State will vie in the $400,000 Fountain of Youth S. (G2) at Gulfstream Park on Saturday. Trainer Todd Pletcher will send one of his top sophomores here in the unbeaten Violence, winner of the CashCall Futurity (G1) in his latest showing. This mega-talented colt has proven capable of running any distance on any oval to this point, and we fully expect him to put in a nice showing despite possibly not fully cranked for this race. The son of Medaglia d’Oro seems to be a special one.
Orb was a fine allowance winner here leading up to this race and could be live as a rapidly improving type for trainer Shug McGaughey. The son of Malibu Moon is bred to run all day and should find this trip right up his alley. Stakes winner Speak Logistics made a nice middle move before flattening out late in the Sam Davis (G3), but has ability and could add some value to this race. Majestic Hussar, a fine allowance winner over a real nice colt, impressive two-turn maiden winner Elmutahid and California import He’s Had Enough, also warrant respect in this big race.
The $250,000 Davona Dale S. (G2) for sophomore fillies could be the starting point for the talented Dreaming of Julia, the Grade 1 queen who finished third in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) in her latest run. The Todd Pletcher trainee has a ton of speed and class, and the fact that she is training well could not bode well for her foes in this one.
Likely to face the formidable favorite includes Ruthless S. queen Lady Banks, super-impressive allowance romper Live Lively, the Dale Romans-trained Private Ensign, a two-time winner at this meeting, and recent allowance heroine Twice Told Tale.
The third graded race at Gulfstream Park is the $150,000 Canadian Turf S. (G3), with Grade 1 winner Data Link the horse to beat.
