Kentucky Oaks Odds
The morning-line odds for the Kentucky Oaks, traditionally run on the day before the Kentucky Derby (either the last Friday in April or first Friday in May), are typically released at the conclusion of the post-position draw, which is held on the Monday before the Oaks.
Unlike the Derby draw, the Oaks field is drawn the way most horse races are: by officials in the racing office pulling pills out of a bottle and randomly assigning post positions. The draw is open to horsemen and print and social media, but is not usually broadcast on either television or radio.
The current odds maker for the Kentucky Oaks is Mike Battaglia, who has held the position of Churchill Downs odds maker since the mid-1970s.
Kentucky Oaks odds are widely available online prior to the start of Oaks betting on Thursday prior to race day. Among the best places to find that information are at Brisnet.com and TwinSpires.com. The latter is the official wagering site of the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks.
Unlike the Kentucky Derby, where as many as 20 horses are allowed to compete, the Kentucky Oaks field is limited to a maximum of 14 horses, all three-year-old fillies, who travel 1 1/8 miles.
