Bluffs Run $60K 3/8ths Derby Final on Saturday, May 4, 2013
The Kentucky Derby isn't the only big race coming up this weekend. At Bluffs Run, eight determined greyhounds will
meet and decide the winner of the 3/8ths Derby. This has been a series of very competitive races, and all the dogs
are running in top form, but only one will emerge as the winner of the route stakes.
SH Limitless is the points leader with 50 points earned with a 5 length win and a win in the quarter finals where he had to work to get the lead.
Next in points is Vision Revision who has hit the exacta half the time this year. He was already in for the finals, which is a good thing, because he had nothing but trouble in his semi-final race when there was a tangle after the break. With a better break in the finals, this Plum Creek runner could be victorious.
Next with 45 points is Copy Cat, also in the exacta in half her races this year as was KL's Nessa who is next down with 44 points. KL's Nessa was an early winner and then had a second in the semi-finals. Copy Cat ran second to points leader SH Limitless, so she's one to watch this time around.
Boc's Steelforce with a win, two seconds and a third in the contest, finished with 43 points. You may remember that his kennel, Boeckenstedt, had last year's winner, Boc's Blast Off.
Two big closers, VJ Splittin Aces and Killer Dare each earned 40 points to get them into the finals. Both made big moves in the stretch and Killer Dare just kept adding lengths until he was five lengths ahead at the wire. I wouldn't be surprised to see either of these closers trying to reel in the leaders in the stretch, if they have the position and room to do it.
Nutso rounds out the field with a first, a second and a third.
Post Positions for the Final
1-Killer Dare (Harlan Brothers) 2-Copy Cat (Plum Creek) 3-Boc's Steelforce (Boeckenstedt) 4-VJ Splittin Aces (Legg) 5-KL's Nessa (Legg) 6-SH Limitless (Hardison) 7-Nutso (Plum Creek) 8-Vision Revision (Plum Creek)
Killer Dare has speed and position, but he may find himself crowded at the start. SH Limitless hasn't got the best post position, but I think he can overcome it to hit the board and maybe even win. Vision Revision should be strong from the 8 box and I like KL's Nessa for a piece of the exotics also.
