Greyhound Race Preview: Orange Park - Cascades at World Golf Classic - July 26th
There are two dogs coming out of stakes races in this feature race. One of them 3-Rotation ran into trouble and the other 8-Easi Butterball ran out of gas. It looks like he made a bid for the lead, couldn't get it and maybe lost sight of the lure or was just overwhelmed by the pack.
The morning line favorite 6-Pat C Gatsby is a WW Time Warp youngster who that has climbed the grade ladder with very few missteps. He has 4 out of 6 for wins and 1 place. He's one of those dogs that seems to hesitate when the box opens, as if he's making split second decisions about the best place to launch himself. Then he bursts into action and takes the lead and races midtrack to the finish line, closing while he does it.
If he gets the lead in this race, with the times that he's posted, it could be decided before the first turn.
2-Kay Outlaw looks interesting at 4-1. With 11 out of 21 for the quiniela and a 5 and a half length win in Grade B two races ago, I think she may be better than she looks here. She's very good at slipping through on the inside and can probably get the inside here. If not, she's also willing to run midtrack.
3-Rotation will be looking for a way to get to the rail at all costs. This works when he can get the rail, but sometimes leads to trouble if there isn't a clear path to the inside. He's a dog that will not run anywhere else. A one track mind, so to speak. This tactic HAS gotten him into the quiniela over a third of the time.
7-Par Super Easy Just had a nice win, going away, in Grade B from the 7 box, but that was in a route race. Sometimes, dogs switching from routes to sprints do fine, but I'd rather see the dog switching from sprints to routes, myself. In her favor, Par Super Easy is a determined dog that doesn't give up, no matter what. She can run midtrack or inside and will be chasing the leaders. If she can get close enough before the first turn, she may be on the board.
4-WW's Work Flow stays in Grade A by managing to show. I wouldn't count him out for exotics, and he did win in Grade A with a decent time, six races back, so he can do it. He has a good time in his last race and didn't have the best box to work with in that race. Now that he's closer to the rail, he may break like he did in the race he won and surprise everyone.
5-WW's Quick Flick is a straight Grade B dog with a wicked closing kick. Her running pattern looks more like that of a router than a sprinter. Unless she suddenly bursts into midseason form here, I don't see her as a threat to the leaders, unless they burn each other out and she picks up the pieces in the stretch.
1-Braska Reggie can't be counted out for exotics. This veteran hasn't won in Grade A in a long time, but he might be there for a piece of the trifecta or super.
