Race Preview - Southland - Bet America People's Choice Challenge Final - August 30, 2013

August 29th, 2013

We've come to the final of the hotly contested Bet America People's Choice Challenge and it promises to be just as much of a battle as the qualifying races were. There's major speed and fast times in the three outside boxes and a couple of hard closers midtrack and inside to challenge the leaders in the stretch.

1-Barcelona Boss is one of the closers and a real threat when he has the running room. Notice the times two and three races back when he blew away the competition. He doesn't seem to care if he's closing midtrack or inside, as long as he can hit the wire first.

2-Mike Ross, on the other hand, unlike his daddy, Rhythmless, would rather break than close usually. He likes the inside, but he'll have to steal it away from several other dogs in this race that insist on getting the rail. Kiowa Producer, for instance, thinks he owns the rail and - most of the time - he does.

3-CT Heartbreaker broke my heart when I picked her for first and she came in second in her last race. Another inside runner who tries hard in every race, but has to deal with the fact that she's only 59 pounds, although it's a very determined and tough 59 pounds. If she gets the early lead and avoids first turn trouble, she might be there at the wire, at least for exotics.

4-KL's Elliott is a dog that could be a contender if he could stop going wide, which would improve his times and keep him from getting bumped on the turns. I really don't think that will happen with the competition he has in this race and would like him better in Grade A.

5-RCK Genghis Khan hasn't won in AA recently, which would indicate that he's over his head in this one.

6-CU Puddle Jumper is another dog that hasn't won in AA and his times don't show that he's up to speed with the greyhounds he's running with today.

7-Manhatin got back to his old form in his last race in this series and showed some of the flash that made him such a menace earlier this year. If he improves on his last performance, he could be a real contender here. The 7 box is no problem for this guy, but the two dogs to his right will be.

8-U Too Pure Silk just keeps getting better. Don't expect very good odds on this guy, but don't leave him out of your win and exotic bets. If he gets the lead by the first turn, the only dog that can challenge him is Kiowa Producer.

9-Kiowa Producer has 17 out of 25 for wins. That's hard to ignore and will make him the favorite at very low odds. Unless he and U Too Pure Silk knock each other out of competition, they could very well be the quiniela. If they are, don't expect to get much for your $2 bet. Either spend more or go for a longshot upset win or place runner like CT Heartbreaker or Manhatin.

As always, safe trips and good racing luck to all the greyhounds on today's program. Don't forget to watch and wager on Bet America where greyhound programs are free and bonus tracks pay rewards.
