Harness Race Preview: The Meadows - Arden Downs - Friday July 26th
Friday night at the Meadows features four divisions of the Arden Downs Trot series. The Ned McCarr for 3YO fillies takes place in races 1 and 4. The James Manderino for 3YO Colts and Geldings takes place in races 6 and 8. They're all contentious races with talent from the best sires and dams.
Andover Hall is well represented as are Donato Hanover, Yankee Glide, Cantab Hall and Tom Ridge on the sire side. Damsires are a roster of veterans including Broadway Hall, Muscles Yankee, SJ's Photo, Donerail and Credit Winner.
Race 4 Preview: Ned McCarr Arden Downs - 3YO Filly Trot 2nd of 2 Divisions
PromiseMeThis is the 5-2 morning line favorite. Driven by Dan Rawlings and trained by Rick Beinhauer, this Chip Chip Hooray-Promisemespring filly was a winner in the PA All Stars series back in June at Pocono. She posted a 154.2 there from the 3 post. Now she's in the 4 post.
Her times are faster than most in the race and Rawlings has driven her to the winner's circle in over half her races and has her in the money almost all the time. He and Beinhauer have 21% for wins this year. She has 9 wins out of 15 races at The Meadows, so she knows this track and likes it.
Second in the morning line odds at 7-2 is UF Tady's Donato with track driving star Dave Palone in the bike driving for Virgil Morgan. I'd like her better if she wasn't in the 1 box, which is a hard spot for young horses in trots, or most trotters for that matter. She has 1 win out of 6 at The Meadows and may need a little more seasoning to keep her flat, although her last break was due to equipment failure, according to the chart.
PrettySydneyRidge is at 9-2 in the morning line and has the very competent trot driver, Brian Zendt driving for Tim Twaddle. With 1 win out of 10 races at The Meadows, this filly hasn't been running at this class level and may have to move down a bit to be a serious contender, although she always tries and closed well two races back.
Bostonz Credit at 6-1 just won from The Meadows 8 box by 3 lengths and has Richard Stillings in the bike for trainer, Rick Zeron. She hasn't run at this class level before, but has only had a couple of races since a long layoff, so there could be more here than meets the eye.
Won Ton Hanover at 8-1 is a Glidemaster-Won An Done filly and has hit the board at The Meadows in 11 out of 15 races, but has only 1 win here. She does have the best early speed of any in this race, but may have trouble getting to the front from the 6 post.
Faith might be the sleeper in this race at 8-1. Brett Miller and R Mac Davis have an exemplary record together for trots and that 156.4 in her last race here from the 7 post was at a higher class level than this one. She's won 3 out of 6 at The Meadows and all 3 wins came with Miller in the bike. I think she could win this one if she gets into position for her closing kick in time.
Pop Tart at 10-1 is a very puzzling filly. She can show very good gate speed in one race and win for fun, then break or fade and be distanced in her next. She may just be one of those fillies that needs more time to mature. She HAS won 5 out of 10 races at The Meadows and Ledford has piloted her to 2 wins out of 4 races. If she's on her A game, she'll be hard to catch, but I'm not sure which filly we'll see tonight.
McKenzie's Star at 10-1 gets a driver switch to Aaron Merriman. She's won here before - one out of two races. I'll excuse the break two races back, when she was in the 9 post and I notice that she's getting closer at the finish in several of her races. She may be ready to hit the board again at The Meadows.
My longshot bet here would be Faith to win and place.
Good racing luck and safe trips to the drivers and horses on tonight's program.
