Charles Singer Series for 4 YO trotters Round 1 at Meadowlands on Thursday February 7, 2013
Windsun Galliano, in Race 2, winner of the Meadowlands Super Bowl in January and Helios, in Race 4, the runner up in the Super Bowl, are two of the trotters who will be behind the starting gate as this series kicks off on Thursday.
Windsun Galliano has the 3 post in the 2nd race and is the Morning Line favorite at 9-5 with good reason. If he retains the form he showed in the Super Bowl, he'll be first at the wire. Other contenders with good records at the Big M are #2 No Frosting, #6 Sweet Ben and #7 Majestic Stone. Yannick Gingras, in the 10 post with Sequin Hanover, will be trying to leave early with the trotter coming from the Meadows.
In Race 4, Helios won't have to contend with Windsun Galliano, which is why he's the favorite at 9-5. He will have competition though. Wisenheimer, who has 2 wins out of 3 races this year at the Big M, will be piloted by Mike Simons, who drove him to a 9 length victory at Pocono Downs last fall. Another driver change is Yannick Gingras, who will be driving #10 Real Babe, who has been burning up the track, since a trainer change to Mark Harder in December. He has a tough post position to overcome, but might be up to challenge Helios in the early running.
Race 6 has a Morning Line favorite at 3-1 - Without a Clue - which is how I feel about handicapping this race. This Tim Tetrick/Annette Lorentzon entry had 5 wins out of 8 races last year, but that was at half mile tracks. Will he be able to handle the change to the Meadowland's distance? I think #9 On The Podium and #8 Good Sound Advice might figure in the exotics. And I wouldn't count out #3 Deck The Halls in this race either.
Meadowlands has a full weekend of stakes action. The Trendsetter Jr for 3YO Colt Pacers takes place on Friday night. On Saturday, it's the Exit 61W Pace for 4YO horses.
