Memorial Day Weekend Greyhound Race Previews
Memorial Day Weekend Highlights
Southland Greyhound Park Friday Evening May 27th
2013 Razorback Classic Championship
Race Preview - Race 131 - Oshkosh Longhorn (5-1) 2 - AMF Loan Officer (5-1) 3 - Barcelona Boss (5-2) 4 - KL's Lucas (5-1) 5 - AMF Bad Bounce (8-1) 6 - Smokey Joe (16-1) 7 - Kiowa Andy Puddy (8-1) 8 - Constant Dream (5-1)
The morning line picks, in order, are the 3-1-2-4. They may be right. Barcelona Boss certainly was impressive in his last two with solid wins. He's also solid class, as are all of the dogs in this race. And that's where I see a problem with the morning line odds.
There's a lot of early speed in this race and some dogs who aren't where they want to be. I'm going to play devil's advocate here and give Smokey Joe a pass on his last race, where he was bumped out of contention. I'm also going to assume that Constant Dream can do as well from the 8 box as she did from the 3 box, last time out. And I'm going to hope that Kiowa Andy Puddy, a closer, chases them home and throw him into my exotics too.
However, in case the morning line has it right, I'm also going to play them over and under with the favorite, Barcelona Boss, who has 17 out of 25 for the quiniela and is on the inside, right where he wants to be.
Orange Park Friday Evening May 27th
Quarter Finals 2013 JGR Puppy Stakes (Races 7, 9, 10 and 11)
Race Preview - Race 101 - Countess Vanessa (9-1) 2 - Rain City Flyer (7-1) 3 - WW's Ignite Fire (5-2) 4 - WW Sparks Flying (5-1) 5 - Kiowa Mat Marty (4-1) 6 - GS Tex (9-1) 7 - Shootin Outlites (14-1) 8 - Razorbingo (7-2)
WW's Ignite Sparks, the 5-2 morning line favorite, will be trying to take the lead from the git-go. Trying to stop her will be Razorbingo, who, like WW's Ignite Sparks, is undefeated in the early rounds. With 3 wins in a row, and in his favorite spot, an outside box, what's not to like? Well, for one thing, WW's Ignite Fire is also undefeated in the first rounds and needs the lead as much as Razorbingo does to win. Trying to take it from both of them will be Kiowa Mat Marty, no slouch himself when it comes to front running wins.
While this looks like a race that will be won by early speed and class, there's always a chance that a closer will get in there and either nip the speed at the wire, or take advantage when one of the leaders falters or doesn't get good position on the turns.
If that happens, look for closer GS Tex or WW Sparks Flying to get into the exotics or even take the win. The logical picks in this race are the 8-3-5-4 but I'll be using the 6 and 7 in exotics.
Semi-finals will be run on Orange Park's special Monday matinee program on May 27th. The finals will be held on Saturday evening, June 1st.
