Pick 4 Preview: Santa Anita - La Canada Stakes - January 20, 2013

January 20th, 2013

The feature race on Sunday at Santa Anita is the 39th running of the Grade 2 La Canada Stakes for four-year-old fillies. The field of six looks like a race between Lady of Fifty and Book Review. Preference given to Lady of Fifty even though Book Review is a Grade 1 winner.

The late pick 4 starts one race earlier with claiming horses on the turf. Seattle Ruler, Ivanho, Bay Rush, Slammer Time and Ain all make sense in the wide open affair. Look to the tote board for clues on who is ready to run well.

The eighth is another turf race, this time a starter handicap for fillies and mare. There looks like three that could battle for the win; Include the Cat, Going for a Spin and Van Brit. Elegant is the long shot look, first off the claim for trainer Doug O'Neill.

The finale is a claiming race for four-year-olds going six and one-half furlongs on the main track. Kenichi is the lukewarm morning like favorite after blitzing cheaper two weeks ago. If pattern hold, Kenichi won't win on Sunday, but he will be tough if the track plays towards speed. Buds Pal drops in half and can be pushing the early splits from post nine. Others with speed are Idontrollonshabbos, Priddis Wildcat, Storming Kentucky and Hodge so the pace could fall apart. If that is the case, Mucho Besos will be kissing the winner's circle. Other closers are Smoken Legacy and Deal' Em. Tough way to end the card

First post at the Great Race Place Sunday is 3:30 ET with race seven scheduled for 6:05. Go Falcons!
