Pick 5 Preview: Keeneland Maker’s 46 Mile – April 12, 2013
A full field of 12 maiden special weight runners goes to post in race six with Flak the 7-2 morning line favorite. The daughter of Malibu Moon was last seen finishing eighth in a maiden special race over the Gulfstream Park turf course in February. Ken McPeek has given his filly a workout over the Keeneland main track and she could be dangers on the cut back in distance. Others to consider are Sky Girl, Biorhythm, Waverly Place, Vice Dancer and Ol Donyo.
More maiden special weight fillies in race seven, this time around two turns and contention runs deep. Flores Island, Cora Mesa, Celtic Arch, Magnolia Lane and Warm Breeze are all between 3-1 and 6-1 on the morning line. Flores Island draws to get the run of the race from post one, but 12-1 Dixie Fiction could have a good shot to upset on the lead from post 12. Also, don’t sleep on Kimallosa from the Eddie Kenneally barn. Kimallosa has a pedigree to improve over the surface and worked over it nicely on Tuesday.
Reload, Wolf Whistle and the half-brother to Wise Dan, Casino Dan look like the major players in race eight. All three are running off of layoffs as is Seve, who has not run since March 2012. Fairy Cat is the best of those with recent form.
The finale is a $10,000 claiming race for fillies and mares going six furlongs on the main Polytrack. This race is another tough one with seven of the 12 less than 10-1 on the morning line. Got No Answers and Courtly Flyer are the two morning line choices, both making their first start at Keeneland. Got No Answers; however, has been in-the-money in 10 of her 17 career starts on a synthetic surface. Reputa the Beautah, Added Delight and Miss Ziggy could round out the superfecta.
First post on Friday in Lexington is 1:05 ET with the pick-5 scheduled to break from the gate at 3:40.
