Pick 6 Betting Preview: Santa Anita $575,466 Carryover – October 10, 2013
A massive pick-6 carryover of over $575,000 awaits bettors on Thursday at Santa Anita and the pool could be well over $2.5-million. The sequence starts in race three, a claiming race going one mile on the turf.
Danderek is the 6-5 morning line favorite and will take a great effort from another horse to out run the favorite. The seven-year-old gelding is lone speed on paper and the drop back to a flat mile will help. Husband’s Folly just defeated Danderek at nine furlongs for his first win since December 2012.
Race four is a maiden claiming race for two-year-old fillies and the first-time-starter For Emma is going to be the pick. Trainer Peter Miller is solid first out and the D’wildcat filly looks to have been working well in the mornings. Goodhumorgirl is the morning line favorite dropping back into a maiden claimer after losing by a nose around the bullring at Fairplex. She should be out winging on the front end under jockey Edwin Maldonado.
Back on the turf for race five and this is a head scratcher. Eight of the 11 are single digit odds on the morning line with Lilly’s Perfect the 7-2 favorite. She has won back-to-back race and goes off the re-claim by trainer Kristin Mulhall. Miss Well Molded looks like she has a chance dropping slightly in class for trainer Paddy Gallagher.
The back half of the pick-6 starts with another wide open race, this time for maiden special weight three-year-olds and upward. Crucero is the morning line favorite, but when looking at his replays, he does not seem to want to pass horses down the lane. Look for Scarly Charly, Sweet Sunshine and Cat Burglar to upset. Long shot players may land on Wicked Finance for trainer Eric Kruljac and the Philip D’Amato trained Expo and Fig.
Older horses go nine furlongs on the turf in race seven, another wide open race that looks tough. On paper there are two horses that could run one-two around the whole track; Artic North and Lumberyard Jack. Artic North just broke his maiden in “race horse” time and may be worth a gamble. Lumberyard Jack returns to his preferred turf course and won these same conditions last year.
Make More Money is likely to be a single on most budget minded tickets after his second place finish in a similar race at Del Mar. The Marino Marini filly ran a winning race, she was just under two lengths clear of the third place finisher, and the winner came right back to win a race at Fairplex. Make More Money is a fitting name for a horse to end the pick-6 on a day where everyone will hope to make more money.
First post at the Great Race Place on Thursday is 4:00 pm ET with race three scheduled to break from the gate at 5:03.
