Pick-6 Preview: $59,161 Carryover - Santa Anita, January 18, 2013
Flashy Delight drops in class and goes back to sprinting after a try at one mile on the turf. She broke her maiden at seven furlongs in November at Hollywood Park and looks to kick off the pick-6 for the favorite backers. Melanistic and My Kentucky Rose could get away with soft fractions up front and race one-two around the track.
The fourth is a maiden special weight at a flat mile with second-time-starter Footbridge the horse to beat. The Street Cry-colt made a good late run in his debut and has been highly touted by his trainer Eoin Harty. Forest Boy is the likely favorite as he finished nearly five lengths in front of Footbridge in their last; however, he is making his sixth career start and the mile may be stretching his limit. Coastal Breeze could not get to the winner in his last race, but was more than six lengths clear of the third place horse last month. If anything, Coastal Breeze is a must use based on his connections.
Jolly Days and Indecise will take plenty of support in race five, an allowance race on the turf, but they must catch Ricspretentiousgal, who looks to be lone speed. Jockey Kevin Krigger was on fire yesterday and looks to continue his roll.
Speed held well in routes yesterday, which may help the chances of the Phoenix-shipper El Ciervo in race six. Others to consider are Cee’s the Year, Sheskey, Vaadka Logic and Somenchantd Evenin.
Back on the turf for race seven, this time on the down the hillside turf. The Tom Proctor-trained Purim’s Dancer already has a win over the course and is the filly to beat. Hidinginplainsight is fast and could get away early depending on what jockey Aaron Gryder does aboard Noise of the Crowd. Gem of Soul gets back on her favorite surface after a dull effort in an off-the-turf event late last month.
The finale will most likely come down to favorites Unmarked Bills and Whipstock, but don’t discount Goodbye Charlie, who will be sent from the rail by jockey Rafael Bejarano , as well as the late-runners Mayan Eyes and Midnight Raven.
Good luck to all in the pick-6 on Friday and stop back later for a look at some of this weekend’s stake action.
