Pick 6 Preview: Arlington Park $44,763 Carryover – June 7, 2013

Let’s start the weekend off right with a pick-6 play at Arlington Park on Friday, which has a carryover of almost $45,000.  The sequence starts with race four, a one-mile claiming race for fillies and mares.

The Business is the morning line favorite at 2-1 and looks like a solid choice in the opening leg.  The El Corredor filly comes off a second place finish over the polytrack at Keeneland and though she was beat almost five lengths, it was almost nine lengths back to the third place filly and the winner, Excessiveness, came right back to win her next start.  Others to consider are Truly Marie, who could be the pacesetter, and Real Good Time, who will also be pushing the fractions.

On the turf for race five,  a grab bag field of ten fillies and mares.  Most will spread in this race using J Jett, Never Lovlier, Chica Bonita and Zencat as those are the principles

Coaming is the 3-1 morning line favorite for race six, but the last win was in another barn back in June 2012 on the turf.  The drop in class may help the four-year-old filly get over the hump; however, we will side with Cecileabration.  The $80,000 yearling purchase is now offered up for a $7,500 claiming tag; however, the best race of her career came when she ran on a synthetic surface around two turns.  She is likely the pace of the race.  Gotta Dance, Abby’s Slew and Mysisterjosephine also fit if Cecileabration gets leg weary that extra half furlong.

Race seven is another wide open turf race with Kitchen Boss and David’s Lucky Lady coming out of the same race where they finished two-three, separated by a head.  In fact, Just Waiting and Lime Tryst also exit that race, where the two-three-four-five and sixth place finishers were all within a half-length of each other.  Sugar Kate is the new face in the race, stepping up off her nose maiden victory.  She will be running late.  Art of Deception and See No Starts are huge long shots, but look like the only speed in the race.

Siding with Telma in race eight, a six and one-half furlong sprint on the main polytrack, after a good second place finish at odds of 33-1 last month.  She is a stone-cold closer in a race that should set up with a nice pace.  Wayne’s Kitten was a head behind Telma and should get first run on the closers.  I Turned Outlaw led late in his last then found the mile distance too far, the cut back will help.

The finale is not an easy maiden claiming race on the turf and must be given a lot of attention as it ends the pick-6, pick-5 and pick-4.  Reach for the Sky, Tiu, Cantinero, Caleb’s Comet and Al’s Uncle should be on most pick-4 tickets if not the other two.  Mandola is 10-1 on the morning line, but is an interesting first-time-starter from the Michael Stidham barn.  Mandola has steady workouts over the past two months and can make a big splash in the finale.

The pick-6 at Arlington has a $1 minimum bet, not $2 like most tracks, so it may be worth a play.  If that’s not in the cards then definitely play the pick-4, which always seems to be overlaid at Arlington.
