Pick-6 Preview: Gulfstream Park - $1,007,646 Rainbow Carryover – February 1, 2013

February 1st, 2013

Once again there were no single winning tickets in the Rainbow Pick-6 at Gulfstream Park so the carryover for the Friday card will be just over $1-million.  The sequence looks like it could pay out as there are a total of, with scratches, 63 horses.

Race five, an allowance grass race, kicks off the wager with Major Marvel the 2-1 morning line favorite.  The seven-year-old gelding looks to be the speed of the field and can take them wire-to-wire for this third straight win.  It’s either single or use the rest in the opener.

Claimers go six furlongs in race six with the class dropper Dixie Devon a strong contender for trainer Jamie Ness.  Harborinthetempest is trained by Todd Pletcher, but looks like the typical Pletcher bet-against in his second career start.  Desirable Lady is the long shot play first-off-the-claim for trainer Patricia Farro.  The filly’s best race was in her maiden breaker on the dirt.

Maidens roll six and one-half in race seven with contenders Morethanahalo, Aim to Win, Mile High City, O T B Bob, Ramsey Branch and Stallwalkin’ Dude.  Spread race.

The back half starts with maiden special weight runners on the turf and Atlantic Dream looks to have finally caught a field that she can beat.  La Rignana is a long shot play as is Visions of Annette, Malibu Queen, Midnight Watch and War Relic.

Race nine is another mess that could see a double digit winner.  For example, Gibson is 8-1 on the morning line, but was just third, beaten a neck, at this level.  Tough, tough race.  Give preference to Southpaw Summer, The Chill Zone and Ari’s Pride.

The finale is a maiden claiming race and if you got this far it may be a good payday, regardless of if you are the only ticket alive.  Anychanceatadance is probably the most appropriately named runner on the card because if she is going to dance in this winner’s circle, this is her chance.  She drops from a straight maiden race after fading bad in her debut.  Her workouts since have been slow, but there are no world beaters in this field.  If she does not fire; Daniela’s Flower, My Big Angel and Microbabe could upset.

The thoughts are most tickets are going to single Anychanceatadance, so do you go against hoping for the jackpot or single and pick up a decent score?

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Post time for race five and the start of the pick-6 is 2:37 ET.
